On the advice of Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon made a last-ditch effort to stay with the Yankees by placing a call to Hal Steinbrenner in January. Unlike A-Rod, however, Damon didn't get the answer he wanted, eventually signing a one-year, $8 million deal with the Tigers.
